PTE booking rules, fees and test-day checklist

Book the right product with matching identification, then protect the appointment by understanding change deadlines and test-day rules. This guide covers the decisions around a booking; use the separate walkthrough for the online registration sequence.

Confirm the booking you actually need

Start from the receiving institution or government rule. Use the test comparison guide if you have not confirmed the product. UK SELT applicants must check both the approved product and location; the word “PTE” alone is not enough.

Keep one myPTE account with an email address you control. Reusing the account preserves access to booking and test history; creating a second account to work around a problem can delay the process.

Before checkout, review the product, Home level if relevant, country, centre address, date, local appointment time, candidate details and payment total. After payment, confirm the booking appears in myPTE and save the confirmation. A bank debit by itself does not tell you the correct appointment was booked.

For detailed account and payment steps, read how to book the PTE exam.

Fees, dates and available seats

The test product and country determine the price and booking currency. An Indian resident testing in Australia pays through the Australian booking flow, not an Indian-price table. Review the final amount and the payment methods offered before authorising payment.

Pearson’s finder is the live source for location and appointment options. The India centre guide and India dates article explain how to begin that search; they do not reserve a seat.

Plan backwards from the receiving deadline: allow time for preparation, test attendance, result release, electronic sharing and a possible further attempt. A typical result time is not a guaranteed application timetable.

Use the linked Pearson finder, select your test and testing country, then review available centres and checkout information. Availability can change between searching and paying. Do not make non-refundable travel arrangements on the strength of a directory entry or an old screenshot.

ID requirements: avoid a preventable refusal

Pearson’s default ID is a valid passport. For an Indian candidate testing in India, prepare the original passport and compare the booking’s names, date of birth, citizenship and other required details with it. Do not assume Aadhaar, a college card, a scan or a photocopy can replace the accepted original.

The current ID policy explains product-specific and country-specific exceptions. Core’s Canadian permanent resident card provision applies in Canada, and the UK eVisa provision applies to SELTs in the UK; neither establishes an ID exception for testing in India.

If your passport is being renewed or held for a visa application, resolve access to an accepted ID before booking. For name-field problems or mismatches, use official support rather than guessing an abbreviation. Your confirmation is not permission to attend with mismatched ID.

Rescheduling is not the same as cancelling

Pearson’s current policy allows free rescheduling when more than 14 full calendar days remain, up to six changes for one appointment. With 14 days or less remaining, rescheduling is unavailable; you must cancel and make a new booking if you need another appointment.

Cancellation refunds are separate: more than 14 full calendar days gives a full refund; the intermediate window gives 50%; seven calendar days or less gives no refund. Because Pearson explicitly excludes refunds at seven days or less, do not treat the phrase “14 to 7 days” elsewhere on the page as a promise of a refund at the seven-day boundary.

Check the live policy and the action shown in myPTE before confirming a change. Save the change or cancellation confirmation. Do not rely on a browser tab that still displays the old appointment.

If Pearson changes the appointment, follow its message about the replacement or refund. Medical or family emergencies are subject to evidence and Pearson’s decision; they do not create an automatic refund entitlement.

Accommodations: arrange support before the test date

Request accommodations through Pearson before booking as directed, with the required supporting evidence. Its current policy asks for submission at least six weeks before the chosen test, with longer processing possible if more documents are needed. Wait for the approved arrangements rather than paying for a standard appointment and assuming adjustments can be added on arrival.

Accommodations and comfort aids are different. Some comfort aids can be inspected by staff without advance approval; extra time or a separate room needs the formal process. A listed break accommodation is not available for PTE Home. Confirm the arrangement for your product with Pearson.

Your test-day checklist

  1. Arrive at least 30 minutes early. Plan the journey using the exact confirmed centre address. Late arrival can mean refusal and loss of the fee.
  2. Bring the accepted original ID. Check that it is valid on the day, not just when you paid.
  3. Complete secure check-in. Expect identity checks, a photograph, signature and palm scan under the applicable procedures.
  4. Store prohibited belongings. Personal notes, phones and electronic devices do not belong at the workstation. Follow the administrator’s instructions and approved-aid rules.
  5. Check the equipment. Confirm the headset and microphone work. Raise your hand promptly for a technical issue; do not try to repair equipment yourself.
  6. Finish under staff instructions. Follow the product’s rules on breaks and leaving the test room.

The current test-centre rules, your product handbook and appointment instructions are the sources to check before travel.

Book safely and keep control of your account

Pearson permits authorised agents using its partner system, but says they do not need your personal myPTE password. Do not share login details. Reject offers of guaranteed scores, altered results or score reports without attending the test.

Use your own email and verify an agent-made booking in your account. If someone else pays, use a card only with the cardholder’s permission. For a suspicious offer, follow Pearson’s fraud-reporting guidance; PTE Karo does not sell appointments or change scores.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reschedule eight days before my test?

Not under the current standard rescheduling rule. At 14 days or less, Pearson says to cancel and book again; any refund follows the cancellation policy.

Should I give an agent my password?

No. Pearson says authorised agents use the partner portal and do not need access to your personal login.

Can I book a second attempt before my result arrives?

Wait for the result from your last test and follow the retake policy. Read the results and retake guide before choosing the next date.
